OH JOYFUL DAY - Lemon, orange and sky blue

THE STORY:
A unique garden room designed to evoke a mood of joy, happiness and energy. To articulate this mood, a colour palette of bright yellow, mid orange and light sky blue was selected. Distinct focal points are placed within the garden to add interest, draw the viewer in and up the pathway. These focal points are surrounded by established citrus trees – lemon, orange, mandarine, kumquat and lime, under-planted with everlasting daisies and succulents, and the pathway hedged with silvery stemmed bush germander. The visual story is of a gifted dancer who, on entering the garden is inspired to express her joy through dance and interactive play. The dancer is drawn up to the lineal bright yellow framed structure that invites the dancer in and to “follow the yellow brick road”. The frame and floor are draped with reclaimed, painted and natural dyed fabrics – these fabrics will be made into something beautiful. The fabric gently sways in the warm breeze waving the dancer in, where she runs, leaps, takes flight and twists her body with precision. Like a sweet, joyful bird, she interacts with the fabric, quick and fast movements up to and against the yellow textured wall. This is her stage. She is captured by a focal point, the hand-painted wall mural – an explosion of colour, botanical motifs, zesty circle slices, floating transparent balls, freshly squeezed paint and succulent greens. This visually stimulating artwork is yet another invitation to dance. Her soul delights as she gracefully and playfully moves rhythmically with the bubbles. Time to interact with the garden, as she places her happy face into the organic circular hole of the limestone sculpture, all set against a bright yellow textured wall. As the afternoon warm sun starts to filter, it is time to gather the citrus from the trees for home-baked delicious treats and to taste the lemon meringue pie – heavenly.
